History of Cannabis in The United State of America

So, New York recently has legalized medical marijuana, great for them. But it is still challenging to get medical marijuana in the state; it has always been one of those cities which are amazingly awkward when it comes to medicinal weed. But, how does hemp and weed-loving nation, the United States, turned into a weed fanatic? It has a long history, you know? And that history is precisely what we are going to discuss today. Before that, did you know at one point in time, the state of Virginia made it a must for every native to grow hemp in their farms? There is a lot more in the history of ‘grass’ in the USA. Read it all:

The act of Three

More than 400 years ago, hemp, a sister plant of marijuana with low levels of THC, was used to make ropes, shirts, and a hell of a lot more things. It was just as important water or salt to the Americans. Hence, keeping the importance of hemp in mind, three colonies, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland made a particular law. This law dictated that every native of the province must grow hemp in his/her farms. Hemp kept on ruling the streets of America until the last few months of the Civil War. Cotton overthrow hemp from its throne, and Americans welcomed softer shirts with a smile.

Mexican Invasion

During the early 1910s, troubled from the Mexican Revolution, the sudacas started moving to the United States. The troubled Cholos brought a new drug with them. They introduced “weed” in the States. Oh, those were simpler times when there were no walls around the border, and no orange was ruling the country.

The Colored Ones

The Afro-Americans or the colored ones quickly picked it up and merely after two decades. Hipsters were also from the same kind, and both of these communities made weed famous in the early days. Famous jazz singers like CAb Calloway started using cannabis in their lyrics too. Who else remembers the Reefer Man?

The Beat Generation

No generation as the Beats has served the common cause of weed in the US. This was the generation that rejected society and started experimenting with the bohemian way of life. This significant lifestyle choice led them to change the drug scene in the country too. And what was the most popular drug of the beat generation? Yep! It was the weed.

The Great Depression

It was actually quite depressing time for the weed-sters. I do not know if I should be happy or sad about the fact that politicians back then used to suck too. They painted the ‘green plant’ into the color of racism. With the start of the Great Depression era, various states of the country begun to ban hash. By the end of 1931, it was illegal in 29 states to roll a fat one. It was officially a controlled substance. The last nail in the coffin was the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937; it banned it totally. But it never was fully swiped off the streets.

PostModern Time and Medical Marijuana

When they ban something without taking the populace in confidence, they invite a revolution, and this is precise, what happened. They banned weed, but they could not prohibit people from revolting, and soon, in the 1950s correctly, the youth started doing it again. But then still in 1996, California became the first state to legalize medicinal weed. Medicinal marijuana is one of the greatest inventions ever since the invention of the internet. It is saving lives; it is comparatively cheaper; it is making us look good, and feel good for ourselves. Powers who contributed to banning hemp and weed in the US are obviously not happy now that it is being legalized again. So, truth is in the shadows darker than the dead garden of Ashai. One behind other it now, 33 states of the US and Washington DC have decriminalized medical or recreational or both sort of weed inside their boundaries. So, if you think medical marijuana New York is tough to get, then read out the history, it has come to a long way bro! Give it some time; it will be fine soon.
